On January 14, the University of British Columbia (UBC) celebrated its first anniversary as Canada’s first and only Fair Trade designated campus. In recognition of the milestone, I interviewed Kaan Williams, the Fair Trade liason from the UBC chapter of Engineers Without Borders, to learn more about the process of the designation, the benefits, and the challenges facing other campuses.

When Vancity Community Foundation and JDQ Systems founded an event to support social entrepreneurs four years ago they named it “When the Dragon’s Away,” to imagine what would happen if dragons, venture capitalists, left for-profit business and entered the realm of social enterprise.

The British Columbia Advisory Council on Social Entrepreneurship and partners Young Women in Business and Global Agents for Change are hosting a Lightning Pitch event March 6 at HiVE Vancouver. The evening will feature 90-second presentations on some of the most exciting initiatives from B.C.'s under 30, as well as networking time to connect with a community of emerging and established social change leaders.
