Axiom News Honoured With Fourth Consecutive Democratic Workplace Award

Axiom News is celebrating being one of 44 companies awarded a spot on the 2010 WorldBlu List of Most Democratic Workplaces, recognizing organizations around the world that practise workplace democracy.
The announcement came today, April 13, as part of the fourth Democracy in the Workplace Day.
“We are excited to be part of a movement to build businesses where team members have the opportunity to play to their strengths and contribute to decision-making processes,” said Axiom News president Peter Pula.
WorldBlu, an Austin, Texas-based organization specializing in democracy in the workplace, hosts the global list recognizing and honouring companies in the for-profit, non-profit and government sectors operating democratically.
Organizations that have been in operation for at least a year with five or more employees are eligible to apply for the WorldBlu award.
Company employees complete a survey evaluating their organization’s practice of 10 democratic principles, such as transparency, integrity, accountability and choice on a leadership, individual, and systems and processes level.
“A diversity of opinions at the table leads to better decisions and cultivates a managerial vision throughout the company,” said Pula. “Our newsroom encourages an open, dynamic culture, where decisions are made on a daily basis playing to people’s strengths and the situation at hand.”
The 2010 awardees include companies from across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, India, the Netherlands and Malaysia from industries such as technology, health care, telecommunications, media, manufacturing, aerospace and retail, representing more than $12 billion in combined annual sales. The winning organizations range in size from five to 60,000 employees.
“Organizational democracy is inevitable,” said WorldBlu CEO and founder Traci Fenton, in a press release.
“The Internet, the demands of Generations X and Y to have a voice at in the workplace, and the Gallup Organization’s report that nearly two-thirds of U.S. workers are disengaged at work are causing businesses to rethink their management models and embrace a more democratic style,” she said.
“The companies that choose organizational democracy will lead their industries, boost their bottom-lines, and ultimately build a more democratic world.”
