Let's Share Co-op Stories

Let's Share Co-op Stories

It’s an exciting time for the co-operative movement and we’ve been busy sharing stories from the International Year of Co-operatives (IYC) launch.

Read the blog “Sharing the Best Kept Secret of Co-ops” for more on the launch and how it highlighted the importance of stories.

Check out the story with The Co-operators president and CEO Kathy Bardswick who shares why the timing for the United Nations-declared IYC couldn’t be better.

I interviewed Kathy at the IYC launch in Calgary and she shared a couple of her observations. With the national launch using cameras to webcast events across the country, Kathy noted the significant opportunity co-operatives have as a system to better utilize technology to reach out. She also said it’s time to move on from depending on the traditional media to share the story.

“Let’s use technology better to reach out, to build social communities, to build economic communities that will further our business model,” she said.

Other recent stories feature an interview with Paul Kelly, president and CEO of First Calgary Financial, the ninth largest credit union in Canada. Paul explained some of the differences between a mainstream financial institution and a credit union including the ownership, governance, distribution of profits and local base.

We’ll continue our commitment to sharing co-op stories and invite you to join us. If you have a blog, video, story or other, drop me a line so we can curate it onto our site.

To sharing the co-op story,

Jennifer
