Curating Key to Co-Creative Communications
Curating Key to Co-Creative Communications
We are pleased to have the opportunity to repost and share with you a blog by Beth Kanter on curating. While her entry is about the use of curating for non-profits the ideas and advice she shares are practical for all organizations.
Curating is a key component of co-creative communications. And, it is different than aggregating. Aggregating simply pulls information from a variety of sources. Curating is the work of making sense of that information. Even more importanly, curating is a natural relationship builder. When you find people whose content adds meaning and makes a contribution to your community's narrative there is a natural, personal connection. When curating well you reach out to people whose content you wish to share and connect with them. This builds community.
Co-creative communications is an approach all organizations should be keeping an eye on, and arguably doing - because it is effective and energizing. Curating is already proving iteself to be powerful piece of the co-creative puzzle.
Posting Beth's piece on this site is an example. Our offline conversation with her was an enlightening as the blog post. Furthermore we are personally and directly drawing some of our clients to her work. And so the community grows in knowlege and relationships.
We are becoming increasingly aware of the power of curating for sense making, and the importance of sense making, especially at work. Work is where we make sense of our talents, work with others to achieve a shared goal, and make our contribution to economy and community. There are few arenas better suited to making that kind of meaning. Curating around your organization's purpose expands the dialogue circle, co-creates narrative, and explores possibility. All activities of an enriching, motivating workplace.
