Stakeholder News Program Continues to Evolve at OMNI Health Care

Exploring the energies and anxieties is the theme of extensive new project

A meeting yesterday between CEOs from OMNI Health Care and Axiom News is the most recent evidence of the organic evolution of the long-standing relationship between the two organizations.

Journalism is never static; that’s the beauty of the profession and the conversation between OMNI’s Patrick McCarthy and Peter Pula of Axiom News focused on the idea that generative journalism is continually transforming.

For 10 years, generative journalists with Axiom News have used appreciative questioning to draw out stories of strength and success from within the Ontario-based long-term care provider.

The articles, like the conversations that inspire them, are short and snappy and have traditionally been published twice daily on the OMNI website, sparking conversation and stoking the fires of innovation and quality throughout the organization on a consistent basis.

But like journalism itself, that format must be fluid and ready to change as need dictates and following yesterday’s meeting, a more in-depth exploration of the energies and anxieties within OMNI is set to be undertaken.

This long-form journalism project will unfold over a period of months and the final product will be an in-depth exploration of the forces that drive the people within the organization.

Based on extensive interviews with stakeholders connected to each of the organization’s 17 long-term care homes, this process will fit alongside a trimmed continuation of the original format.

Strengths and successes are as certain to arise as challenges and flaws, and the process is intended to paint an elaborate portrait of where the organization sits today, while mapping out a direction to a new point at which OMNI could arrive through continued organizational transformation.

The themes that emerge through this process of discovery will translate into a series of short documentaries to complement in-depth feature articles. To close out the project, a strategic planning open spaces summit involving stakeholders and facilitated by Axiom News is anticipated, which could lead to the next step in the organization’s growth.

The consensus after the meeting: generative journalism and Stakeholder News isn’t only about telling a story; it’s about defining the collective strength of the system or organization, co-creating the ongoing narrative based on the energy of the people involved, and walking the path to a designed future together.
