Learn how to Advance Principles of Leadership at Upcoming Conference
An upcoming conference aims to provide a safe setting for open and honest dialogue about how to achieve better, more effective leadership.
Hosted by the Servant Leadership Institute, the first annual Servant Leadership Winter conference takes place Feb 1-3 in San Diego.
The inaugural event brings together leaders from a variety of fields, who share their experiences with a form of leadership that asks people to serve for the sake of others.
President of the Servant Leadership Institute Tony Baron says a main driver for creating the conference is the opportunity to “build relationships with other leaders who have the same like mindedness in terms of making a difference in the community for the sake of others.”
Presenters include renowned servant leadership author, speaker and business consultant Ken Blanchard, who will share his experiences that includes working with a number of Fortune 100 companies.
Former Toro CEO Ken Melrose will talk about his leadership transforming Toro from financial difficulty using the principles of servant leadership. Melrose is the author of Making the Grass Greener on Your Side: A CEO's Journey to Leading by Serving and now founder of the consulting company Leading by Serving.
Rani Hong, a recipient of the United Nations Human Rights award, will be sharing her experience of how to make a positive difference in the world as a leader. Hong’s work addressing crimes against women and children has contributed to the passage of precedent-setting laws in Washington State, and she has advised national and international governments on the prevention of human trafficking.
In addition to recordings of each three-hour workshop, which will be hosted by more successful leaders, participants will leave the conference with Baron’s book The Art of Servant Leadership, which details how Datron World Communications adoption of servant leadership helped them skyrocket from $10 million to $200 million in six years.
“World-class speakers” combined with workshops and an intimate setting — the event is capped at 200 people — will demonstrate that “servant leadership is not only the definitive way of leading in our change environment that we have, but it is also the most profitable way to do that and get better results,” according to Baron.
He adds that the event is also timely in that it presents practical applications of needed leadership in the current economic environment.
“Anytime you deal in a realm of uncertainty and you deal in the realm of constant changes you need a leader that bases the leadership style on character,” says Baron.
“We are going to need for organizations and leaders to not only be committed to results, being sustainable and profitable, but also to be committed to people.”
