Southampton Care Centre’s resident and family services co-ordinator says the Ontario Long Term Care Association’s (OLTCA) Stakeholder News program serves as “a pat on our back.”
Andrea Prentice says the Morning Report website is a source for managers and staff members at Jarlette Health Services-owned homes to share information and celebrate wins.
“We get recognition from our head office (and) it’s a pat on our back,” she says.
“There’s a recognition in the sector and it’s nice to see one of our other corporate homes doing something and getting featured on there. We also e-mail each other and give our congrats.”
Prentice notes that the service has been a good way for Southampton Care Centre to discover best practices from other long-term care homes outside of Jarlette.
Often, Prentice says people working in the Bruce County long-term care home’s activity department will read the Morning Report website and utilize ideas developed by other providers.
“We beg, borrow and steal,” she laughs.
“We look at (the website) all the time and we think, ‘Oh, that’s a good idea.’ Our boss will print it out and show us what another home is doing.”
Looking back over the years, Prentice says she commends the writers at Axiom News for their professionalism and efforts to engage the home’s team members in the OLTCA’s Stakeholder News program.
“It was always professional and efficient. I always thought the (process) was very well done,” she says.
“You ask very targeted questions. You’ve also talked to a number of people (at the home), so I think you’ve done quite well by having that variety (of people engaged).”
